Lincolnland Club and District Leaders,

Please see the attachment on Roberts Rules of Order

The National Exchange Club Mid-Winter Conference was held in La Quinta, California, on January 7th - 10th.  District Presidents and Presidents-Elect met with National Officers, Board Members, and Staff Members.  We had spirited discussions on a variety of topics, including our National Foundation, membership recruitment programs, and Excel Clubs.  There was also a presentation on board meeting protocol, and I've attached a brief reference on Roberts Rules of Order that you might find useful.

During the conference, National President-Elect Margie Miller presented a summary of her plans for 2010 - 2011, which includes the theme of "Shining the Light of Exchange".  Margie will travel from South Carolina to be the National Representative at our Lincolnland District Convention in Naperville on June 10th - 13th.

Regarding membership, National Exchange was down 576 members for 2009 - 2010 as of December 18th.  Lincolnland's membership had dropped by 53 members earlier in the fall, but we've climbed back to being down 35 members after getting a boost from our new LMV Club (Libertyville - Mundelein - Vernon Hills).  LMV, which will have their charter banquet on February 16th, is one of four new clubs formed in the nation since July 1st.  I'd like to congratulate our five Lincolnland Clubs with positive growth this year, which are Aledo, Champaign, Quad Cities, Urbana, and West DuPage County.

By the way, if you're planning on going to the National Convention in La Quinta this July, please book your travel early.  The Palm Springs Airport (PSP) is convenient but has somewhat limited flights.  I don't have all the details yet, but there will be a shuttle service between PSP and the hotel.  You could fly to another airport in the Los Angeles area, but you would be on your own for transportation to the hotel.  La Quinta Resort is a 5-star property at an Exchange Club rate of $110 per night for a single or double room.  Please see the latest issue of Exchange Today for hotel information.

In case you didn't know, effective January 1st the Illinois Safe Haven Law allows parents to relinquish newborns anonymously and without penalty for 30 days after birth to personnel at hospitals, emergency medical facilities, and police and fire stations.  Previously, the law allowed for a 7 day period after birth.  Since Illinois originally adopted the Safe Haven Law, 53 babies have been turned over to authorities.  All 50 states and the District of Columbia have Safe Haven Laws with the time for legal relinquishment ranging from three days to one year.

I'd like to thank Teresia Mueller from Belleville for accepting to serve as Division 11 Director for the Alton and Belleville Clubs.  The opening was created with Bill Jones moving to the East Coast for a new professional position.  Teresia has previously served as Division 11 Director, and she is also our Lincolnland ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award Chair.  Thank you, Teresia!

And finally, congratulations go to Beardstown, Naperville, and Quad Cities, which have already qualified for the National Service Award.  Don't forget to submit your club's activities to National and receive the National Service Award that your members have earned.

Thanks for all you do in the Spirit of Exchange.

Scot
