Welcome to February, which begins the two-month "Stand Up with Exchange" membership program.  Through March 31st, new recruits can get a 90-day trial membership in Exchange.  To participate, your club must waive one quarter of dues for "Stand Up with Exchange" members, and National and Lincolnland will also waive one quarter of dues for the new recruits.  The initiation fee of $15 from National will be billed to clubs 90 days after the new member has joined.  For more information on "Stand Up with Exchange", please visit the National Exchange Website at www.nationalexchangeclub.org.  "Stand Up with Exchange" has been our most successful membership recruitment program in the past, so please present this opportunity to your friends, business associates, and family members who want to strengthen their communities through Exchange.

Congratulations to the Exchange Clubs of Mattoon and Quincy, who have now qualified for the National Service Award.  Lincolnland is one of only seven districts around the country that has already had five clubs (including Beardstown, Naperville, and Quad Cities) qualify for the award.  Please keep reporting your clubs programs and projects to National, and celebrate your successes with the National Service Award your members have earned.

Lincolnland formally welcomes the Libertyville - Mundelein - Vernon Hills (LMV) Club into Exchange at their charter banquet on Tuesday, February 16th.  Thanks go to all those who have helped build the club, including Mike Oster, Catherine Finger, and Cynthia Lee.

By the way, you now know what LMV means, but do you know what ALL signifies?  Stay tuned to the next "Lincolnland Update".

Feedback Wanted:  As you know, Exchange's National Convention will be July 21st through 24th in La Quinta, California.  Our district neighbors Minnesota and the Dakota Territory are interested in having a joint Region 3 hospitality room at the convention.  No details have been worked out yet, and at this point I'd like to gauge Lincolnland's interest in the shared room.  Please send me an e-mail this week with your thoughts.  Later this month, I'll participate in a regional teleconference led by Region 3 Vice President Katie Smith.

Speaking of conventions, make sure you have your calendars marked for the Lincolnland District Convention in Naperville on June 10th through 13th.  A good time will be had by all.  More information on the convention will be in the next Lincolnland Link issue.

Lincolnland Faces and Places: Congratulations to Charter Club President Dale Wolf of Charleston, who has been elected to serve as head of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce. ...  Also, congratulations to Quad Cities Club President Tom Conrad, who has been appointed as an alderman to the Silvis City Council. ... Belleville's Annual Police Appreciation Dinner is set for Thursday, February 11th, starting at 6 PM.  The program is designed to honor the men and women who serve the Belleville community as law enforcement and court officers.  The dinner is free for members and law enforcement personnel. ...   If you're in the area and have a pint to spare (as I do), stop by Greater Kendall County's Community Blood Drive on Saturday, February 13th, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Bickford Assisted Living at 3712 Grove Road in Oswego. ... Champaign is currently distributing their nursing scholarship applications to local schools.  The purpose of their program is to encourage caring students from Champaign to choose nursing as a profession. ... The Lake County Exchange Clubs Foundation for the Prevention of Child Abuse Fundraiser will be held at Rink Side Family Entertainment Center in Gurnee Mills Mall from 10 AM to 7 PM on Saturday, February 28th.

Do you know an exceptional fire chief?  Consider nominating him or her for an award in the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association's Recognition Program.  I've attached a nomination form that was forwarded by Mike Oster.  This is not an Exchange Club program, but it is a meaningful way to recognize a professional who has contributed to your community's success.

An finally, I'd like to thank the Exchange Club of Lockport for their camaraderie at the Lockport Township Firefighter Recognition Dinner on Saturday, January 23rd.  During the event, Lockport presented their "Firefighter of the Year" Award to a team of very deserving professionals.  It was truly a fine evening.

Thanks for all you do in the Spirit of Exchange.
