Lincolnland Club and District Leaders,
This edition of "Around Lincolnland" features a sampling of the "Generous Spirit of our Exchange Members" at the Grayslake Club. For more information on the club, please contact Division 2 Director and Grayslake Member Cynthia Lee at cynthialee2031@sbcglobal.net.
In the eight years I have been a member, I cannot list all of the funds our club has collected and donated to worthy causes. Grayslake gives $150 to each weekly speaker that comes from a 501c3 organization. During a lunch last year, we collected $500 using a bread basket for a member who was buying a van that would hold his wheel chair. We give freely to A Safe Place, which is a women's shelter, as well as Avon Township Pantry and other community organizations. The past two years at Christmas, we chose 12 charities in our area to receive $100 to $200 each. We have assisted the Grayslake Youth Center get started, paid for bagpipers to celebrate the Grayslake Fire Department's 100th anniversary during the annual summer parade, given funds to the Grayslake Heritage Museum, and helped send special needs children to camp each year. In January, longtime member Bob Wegge passed the bread basket around to raise money for the Haiti relief effort. In one hour, we actually raised $1045 from our members, which was matched by our board. Our club sent a check to the American Red Cross for $2090. Awesome Exchangites! There is so much we do that if a cause sounds good, then the bread basket makes the rounds.
Exchange isn't just about making new friends, having lunch, and working on fundraisers It's all about giving back to the communities in which we live.
Thanks for all you do in the Spirit of Exchange.
